An Evening of Music and Words with Daran Kravanh and Bree Lafreniere.
Daran Kravanh is a survivor of the "killing fields" of Cambodia whose life was spared when he came upon an accordion belonging to a soldier and was recruited by the Khmer Rouge to play for both captors and captives. Kravanh will perform his music while his biographer, Bree Lafreniere, reads from her deeply touching account of Kravanh's life, Music Through the Dark: A Tale of Survival in Cambodia. Kravanh and Lafreniere will be joined on stage by Kravanh's ensemble of musicians. A book signing follows the program.
This event is part of the Skirball Center's ongoing accordion music series, "Compressing the World."
