On four consecutive Tuesday evenings beginning August 7, Louisiana Folk Roots will offer accordion, fiddle and guitar lessons with none other than Steve Riley, David Greely and Sam Broussard from 6 to 7:30pm at the Acadiana Center for the Arts in downtown Lafayette.
And that's not all... after the abbreviated final class, every participating student will have a chance to actually play with the entire band, Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys. It simply doesn't get any better than that!
We the Mamou Playboys School of Music is the first offering of its kind and that it represents an entirely new concept in teaching Cajun and Creole music and culture. We're proud to be able to partner with the Mamou Playboys for this great immersive learning opportunity put together with some of the best and most influential musicians in Louisiana.
Class sizes will be limited and these initial sessions will be geared to intermediate/advanced players playing accordions in the key of C and fiddles tuned down one whole step. The curriculum will be somewhat sequential and we're offering the complete package of four nights for just $30 for Friends of Louisiana Folk Roots (or $40 for non-members).
So get ready to have some fun while learning some great technique - and traditional and original tunes (two or more per night) including "La Pointe aux Pins," "The Scott Playboy Special," "Katherine," "Elise" and "The Last Waltz." This is your chance to get up close and personal with the guys that have made the Mamou Playboys sound so recognizable.
If this sounds as exciting to you as it does to us, please make your plans now to be among the first graduates of The Mamou Playboys School of Music! Give us a call today to register -- (337) 234-8360. We expect these slots to fill very soon.
