Accordions, music, dancing, concerts. Alberta's largest accordion festival has it all. Bands, soloists, youngsters and professional players offer a weekend of fun. Events include a concert, "Cimarrons" dance band, trade fair, competitions, open stage performers, workshop, pancake breakfast and bands extravaganza.
More accordions! More music! Two festival locations! Amazing talent opens Friday's Concert at St. Basil's Cultural Centre. Headliners are Austin Kawa, Edmonton's two-time winner of the Happy Hans Championship, and Sammy Thomas, the 18-year-old accordion sensation from the Las Vegas International Accordion Convention. Saturday and Sunday the festival moves to the South East Edmonton Seniors Centre. Enjoy the free-for-all of the Saturday Open Stage where anyone can play their accordion - players register on site. Applaud the skill of accordionists from Canada and the U.S., ages 6 to 76, at the Competitions. Saturday night dance to The Cimarrons. The Trade Show, both days, offers accordions, accessories, music and CDs. Learn new techniques at Saturday's Workshop. Sundays' events start with a pancake breakfast and accordion entertainment. Competitions continue with the hilarious skits of the Novelty Class. The "Bands Extravaganza" leads off Sunday afternoon. The festival ends with top performers giving their best to win the Open Championship Trophy.
