YOU LIKE POLKA? Here's a chance to get out of the afternoon summer heat, enjoy the atmosphere at the world-famous Broken Spoke plus listen and dance to fine "old-school" POLKA music by The Fabulous Polkasonics, Brian Marshall and his Texas-Slavic Playboys and Conjunto Los Pinkys!

Saturday, June 21, 2008, 2pm to 6pm... it's The Texas Polka Jamboree at The Broken Spoke.

The Fabulous Polkasonics play Polish-American "Honky" Style music. The band features the "organ-grinder" sound of the Chemnitzer concertina, clarinet (tenor and soprano sax), bass, drums and trumpet (accordion, too). The band plays waltzes, polkas, obereks... a little Czech... a little German music, sometimes.

Brian Marshall and his Texas-Slavic Playboys play Texas-Polish style fiddle music that is rooted in the songs and melodies brought to Texas by Polish immigrants in the 1850's. Fiddles, maly bas (little bass), a three string bowed cello, drums, accordion. This is good time music played by a fun-loving bunch of musicians who know how to cut loose!

Conjunto Los Pinkys are celebrating 15 years on the Austin music scene and feature some veterans who have been playing on Austin's Sixth Street since the 1950's! Accordion players, Isidro Samilpa and Chencho Flores will be on hand to play some of the forgotten dance music of Texas... redovas, shotis, paso dobles and good old polkas on the button accordion, bajo sexto, tololoche (upright bass) and drums.

This is a family-friendly event. Food will be served... BBQ,smoked brisket, hamburgers, chicken-fried steak and more are available from the kitchen! FREE POLKA Dance lessons, too!!!
