Grounded in the mythic energy and spirit of traditional Irish music, Culann’s Hounds – which takes its name from one of the great warriors of Irish legend – also incorporates high-energy pub punk and Americana to form an original, explosive blend they call “punk-Irish-hoedown.” In their early years, the Hounds opened for musical greats such as Paddy Keenan, Martin Hayes, Liam Clancy, Lúnasa, Tommy Peoples, Boys of the Lough, Solas, Susan McKeown, and Tempest. The San Francisco quartet has headlined shows up and down the West Coast over the last several years – at venues ranging from the Cotati Accordion Festival to the Great American Music Hall, the Starry Plough, and SBC Park (performing the National Anthem for the Giants) as well as clubs in New York and Boston – and even toured Scandinavia this past summer.
Culann’s Hounds are Mike Kelleher on guitar, tin whistle, and vocals; fiddler Steve Gardner (who also sings and plays guitar and tin whistle); accordionist-singer Renee de la Prade; and Scott Marshall on bodhrán and other percussion.
