This is an open call to ALL ACCORDION PLAYERS, big and small, short and tall, to join forces for MASS ACCORDIONS!
This free event is part of the Make Music New York “ MASS APPEAL” series of special performances for large groups of a single type of instrument…such as the accordion! We want massive numbers of accordion players to converge in Brooklyn and play together. (Similarly, the bagpipers are massing in Staten Island, guitar players are massing in Union Square, etc...)
Now in its third year, Make Music New York is a festival of free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs, all on the first day of summer. On this day, musicians of all ages, creeds, and musical persuasions perform on streets, sidewalks, stoops, plazas, cemeteries, city parks and gardens
Volunteer players are invited to participate in the chorus for the debut performance of a new site-specific piece written and directed by composer Bob Goldberg for Famous Accordion Orchestra, in which visitors discover an ‘accordion forest’. Players are also invited to participate in a ‘play-along’ set of well-known old favorites with the Main Squeeze Orchestra, a 14-piece all-female all-accordion ensemble conducted by Walter Kuhr. Players of all levels of ability from beginners to professionals are welcome.
Call time is 4:00pm for all volunteer players, to set-up on site. Please email so we know how many people are coming!
