The 20th annual edition of Galla-Rini Accordion Camp is being held July 26th to 31st, 2009 in San Anselmo, CA, just north of San Francisco. Joe Smiell will arrange and conduct orchestral pieces for the July 30th concert. Anthony Galla-Rini will be honored on Wednesday evening - everyone is encouraged to play something composed or arranged by him. For info, contact kelly.marian@gmail.com.

Maestro Anthony Galla-Rini was truly a legend of the accordion -- devoted to the serious and classical study of the accordion, he wrote hundreds of arrangements, published his own method books, and in 1941, composed his first accordion concerto which he performed with the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra. A recognized virtuoso, Galla-Rini toured the world, giving concerts and solo recitals, and played on numerous movie soundtracks (High Noon, Laura).

At the Galla-Rini Accordion Camp, attendees play all kinds of music in the ensemble -- classical, semiclassical, American musicals and more. It’s about learning to play musically, and learning to play in an ensemble, which is an entirely different experience from playing alone.
