What:
Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Jessica Fichot is a lot like her hometown of Paris: French at heart, but with an international soul. Drawing on her multi-ethnic French/Chinese/American upbringing, Jessica’s music fuses styles and languages while taking the listener on a winding journey from the French chanson tradition into the lands of gypsy jazz and Chinese and Latin American folk.
Jessica was born in U.S. to a French father and Chinese mother, but was raised in France. After graduating from the School of Audio Engineering in Paris and the Berklee College of Music in Boston, she began writing children’s music for educational programs. It was only after moving to L.A., however, that she began writing the songs that would form her debut album, Le Chemin. For that project, Jessica sings in French, Chinese and Spanish, and introduces instruments such as the toy piano, clarinet and glockenspiel. (She also taught herself accordion especially for the album.) Upon the release of Le Chemin, Jessica toured in France, China, Canada and across the U.S., backed by a quartet of clarinet/sax/flute, upright bass, guitar, and drums. She is currently planning a new album for 2009.
