Big SqueezeAre you ready to put your squeezebox skills to the test? Texas Folklife is looking for the most amazing young accordion players in Texas and Louisiana for its annual Big Squeeze accordion contest. You could win cash, a trip for two to play in Germany (courtesy of Hohner), and a day of recording at SugarHill Studios in Houston. Finalists will battle it out before a huge crowd on June 6th at the 20th Annual Accordion Kings & Queens festival. 1. I’m sure it would be fun to watch, but making music into a competition seems to suck all the love out of it for me.

  2. So you would like to participate? No Competition? Great – bring your button box or accordion and join in the fun.

The Texas FolkLife organization has just announced that at the June 6th 20th Annual Accordion Kings & Queens festival – they are INVITING ALL accordion players to bring their accordions and join them on the stage and in the orchestra pit – and perform as a Large Accordion Orchestra. The songs will be played jam style and to pre-recorded background music.

The lists of songs are: Jole Blond key of D, Jambalaya Key of C, Cielto Lindo Key of C, El Rancho Grande Key of G, Beer Barrel (El Barrilto) Polka Key of C, and Yellow Rose of Texas (C)/Deep in the Heart of Texas(F) medley and more if time permits.

Sheetmusic and mp3 Background soundtracks are available at my website starting Feb. 21.

  4. Hey everyone, I found a very, very old accordion at a garage sale and I need help trying to see what it’s worth or where it came from.
It says PUCCINI on the front in rhinestones and then the word moderna a couple of inches below that. The old leather straps are broken from wear and tear and the exterior of the accordion looks like green marble or mother of pearl. It’s really beautiful and very old. Please help!
    Thanks! Becky
